Statewide cap
No statewide residential rent cap. 2025 repeal bills (SF 726, HF 3245) of 471.9996 subd. 2 only introduced; no evidence of passage.
Written notice
No fixed number of days for rent increases. Landlord's rent-increase notice may not be shorter than the period the lease gives the tenant to give notice of intent to quit (cannot be waived). Default if no lease period: tenancy at will notice = interval between rent payments (max 3 months), so one rental period for month-to-month.
Local rent control
Subd. 1 bars cities, counties, towns from adopting/renewing rent control on private residential property; subd. 2 exception allows it if the local government already has the power and the measure is approved in a general election (voter approval). History line: 1984 c 551 s 1 only (read via revisor page summary). No 2023-2025 amendment found.
